The following resources will provide you with information on transportation issues and persons with disabilities.

  • Association of Travel Instruction

    The
    Association of Travel Instruction (ATI) is a national professional association which exists to develop the relatively new professions of travel training instructor and travel trainer for persons with disabilities, other than those with blindness. The goal of ATI is to serve the practitioners who teach persons with disabilities to use public transit safely and independently. Its members include travel training instructors/travel trainers who work for transit properties, school districts, community rehabilitation agencies, and independent living centers. Members of the association also include parents of children with disabilities, orientation and mobility specialists for persons with blindness, and persons with disabilities who are transportation advocates. Membership in ATI is open to anyone interested in the accessible transportation field.

    Easter Seals Project ACTION (Accessible Community Transportation In Our Nation) is a national program that supports innovation and cooperation in solving transit accessibility problems. Easter Seals Project ACTION works with both the disability community and the transit industry to provide assistance in implementation of the transportation provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Easter Seals Project ACTION provides various direct forms of technical assistance and training, and maintains a library of information and materials addressing accessible transportation for people with disabilities. Easter Seals Project ACTION disseminates at no charge a newsletter, training curricula, surveys, technical materials, and reports.

    The Access Board is an independent Federal agency devoted to accessibility for people with disabilities. www.access-board.gov
