Access Center: Improving Outcomes for All Students K-8

While this project has come to the end of its five-year contract with the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), it is continuing to maintain its web site.  The Access Center web site has resources to improve educational outcomes for elementary and middle school students with disabilities designed to build the capacity of TA systems, states, districts, and schools to help students with disabilities learn from the general education curriculum.

Center on Instruction (COI)

The Center on Instruction, part of the Comprehensive Center Network, is one of five content centers serving as resources for the 16 regional U.S. Department of Education Comprehensive Centers. Within the five instructional areas (reading, mathematics, science, special education, and English language learners), the Center's work concerns research, practices, resources, information, and professional development for the 16 Comprehensive Centers.

IRIS Center for Training Enhancements

The IRIS (IDEA and Research for Inclusive Settings) Center for Training Enhancements provides assistance to college faculty working in pre-service preparation programs. The Center aims to ensure that general education teachers, school administrators, school nurses, and school counselors are well prepared to work with students who have disabilities and with their families. IRIS is a project of the Special Education Technical Assistance and Dissemination Network (TA&D), funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS).

National Library of Education (NLE)

The National Library of Education (NLE) serves as the federal government's primary resource center for education information, providing collections and information services to the public, education community and other government agencies on current and historical programs, activities and publications of the U.S. Department of Education, federal education policy, and education research and statistics. In addition to on-site access, the Library's services are available by phone, Internet, fax and mail.

Science Education for Students with Disabilities (SESD)

Science Education for Students with Disabilities (SESD), an Associated Group of the National Science Teachers Association, spreads awareness of the need to promote science for the people with disabilities, encourages members to develop curricula and materials for use in classrooms where there are people with disabilities, and serves as a clearinghouse for people who have or are seeking information about teaching science to people with disabilities.

Special Connections

The Special Connections site connects teachers to strategies that help students with special needs be successful across the general education curriculum. Teacher tools for implementing best practices, case study materials, resources, and online collaboration are provided in modules focusing on instruction, assessment, behavior plans and collaboration.

What Works Clearinghouse (WWC)

The What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) is a project of the U.S. Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences established to provide educators, policymakers, and the public with a central, independent, and trusted source of scientific evidence of what works in education. It is administered by the Department through a contract to a joint venture of the American Institutes for Research and the Campbell Collaboration. Through a set of easily accessible Web-based databases on what works, the WWC will provide decision-makers with the information they need to make choices based on high quality scientific research. The WWC will develop standards for reviewing and synthesizing rigorous research and will provide its findings in accessible, straightforward language through the following user-friendly, searchable online databases: (1) an educational interventions registry that provides reviews of potentially replicable programs, products, and practices that are claimed to enhance important student outcomes, and synthesizes the scientific evidence related to their effectiveness--an additional linked database will provide information about the evaluation studies on which the intervention reviews have been based; (2) an approaches and policies registry that contains evidence-based research reviews of broader educational approaches and policies; (3) a test instruments registry that contains scientifically rigorous reviews of test instruments used for assessing educational effectiveness; and (4) an evaluator registry that identifies evaluators (both individuals and organizations) that have indicated their willingness to conduct quality evaluations of education interventions.
