American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc. (AOTA)

The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) supports a professional community for members, represents the profession to the public, serves the interests of its members, and promotes access to occupational therapy services. AOTA offers numerous publications, including consumer fact sheets on topics ranging from gardening with arthritis to occupational therapy services in schools.

American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)

The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) fosters the development and improvement of physical therapy services and education by: (1) accrediting academic programs; (2) assisting in composing state certification examinations; and (3) tracking government affairs. APTA publishes a weekly newsletter, monthly research journal, monthly magazine, and books related to practice in the field.

American School Counselor Association (ASCA)

The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) supports school counselors' efforts to help students focus on academic, personal/social and career development so they not only achieve success in school but are prepared to lead fulfilling lives as responsible members of society. It provides professional development, publications and other resources.

American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA)

American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) represents the interests and needs of recreational therapists. Recreational therapists are health care providers using recreational therapy interventions for improved functioning of individuals with illness or disabling conditions. ATRA provides educational opportunities, including conferences and legislative forums; legislative, standards, and regulatory advocacy; treatment specialty network; professional publications; and a newsletter published six times per year.

Association of Travel Instruction (ATI)

The Association of Travel Instruction (ATI) is a national professional association which exists to develop the relatively new professions of travel training instructor and travel trainer for persons with disabilities, other than those with blindness. The goal of ATI is to serve the practitioners who teach persons with disabilities to use public transit safely and independently. Its members include travel training instructors/travel trainers who work for transit properties, school districts, community rehabilitation agencies, and independent living centers. Members of the association also include parents of children with disabilities, orientation and mobility specialists for persons with blindness, and persons with disabilities who are transportation advocates. Membership in ATI is open to anyone interested in the accessible transportation field.
