American Council on Rural Special Education (ACRES)

The American Council on Rural Special Education (ACRES) is an organization for improving services for students with disabilities living in rural areas. ACRES sponsors an annual conference and maintains a Rural and Small Schools Library and has other publications.

Center for Special Education Finance (CSEF)

The Center for Special Education Finance (CSEF) addresses a comprehensive set of fiscal issues related to the delivery and support of special education services to children throughout the United States. CSEF's mission is to provide information needed by policymakers to make informed decisions regarding the provision of services to children with disabilities, and to provide opportunities for information sharing regarding critical fiscal policy issues. CSEF currently is conducting the National Special Education Expenditure Project (SEEP). It is funded by the U. S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP).

Center on Personnel Studies in Special Education (COPSSE)

The Center on Personnel Studies in Special Education (COPSSE) focuses on issues surrounding personnel preparation in the field of special education. Its goals are to: 1) conduct a comprehensive review of existing literature, 2) identify critical gaps in the current knowledge base and design and conduct a program of study to address these gaps, and, 3) identify and disseminate policy and practice recommentations. There is a direct link to a report titled the Study of Personnel Needs in Special Education (SPeNSE) from the COPSSE web site. It is funded by the U. S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP).

Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is a membership organization that tries to improve educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities. CEC's 17 divisions provide focus on a wide variety of aspects of special education.

Data Accountability Center (DAC)

The Data Accountability Center (DAC) maintains a website that provides public access to the most recent statewide data about children with disabilities served under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). These data are collected annually by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs in accordance with Section 618 of IDEA. They are provided in the form of tables produced for the Annual Reports to Congress. This website currently includes:  the Annual Report Tables and Other Data Products; access to the state-reported data; information about how the data are currently collected, as well as information about past data collections; and documents developed to assist states in reporting their data to OSEP,
The Data Accountability Center (DAC) is a project of the Special Education Technical Assistance and Dissemination Network (TA&D), funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS).

Division for Early Childhood (DEC)

The Division for Early Childhood (DEC) is an international membership organization those who work with or on behalf of children with special needs, birth through age eight, and their families. DEC is a subdivision of CEC (Council for Exceptional Children). DEC is promotes policies and practices that support families and enhance the optimal development of children. Children with special needs include those who have disabilities, developmental delays, are gifted/talented, and are at risk of future developmental problems.

Early Head Start National Resource Center

The Early Head Start National Resource Center (EHS NRC) works to ensure that Early Head Start programs have information and training on best practices on a range of topics. It is a program of the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services.

National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET)

The National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET) is a national membership organization for supporting and assisting teachers and future teachers of special education. It provides a national forum for their ideas, and develops and promotes professional excellence through the support of teachers who provide services to children with disibilities.

National Center for Students with Intensive Social, Emotional and Behavioral Needs--Project Reach

Project REACH is a National Center which works with students with intensive social, emotional, and behavioral needs. The project is a collaborative effort between Lehigh University and the University of California, Riverside. The central themes of the project are intervention-based assessment, ecologically and culturally responsive practices, and collaboration across systems of care. Information is available on the website for parents and teachers.

Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS)

The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) provides a wide array of supports to parents and individuals, school districts and states in three main areas: special education, vocational rehabilitation and research.. OSERS is comprised of the Office of the Assistant Secretary (OAS) and three program components: the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), and the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA).
