General Information about the People and Economy of the United States
The Census Bureau is headed by a Director, assisted by a Deputy Director and an Executive Staff composed of the associate directors. The Bureau has 12 regional offices with additional processing centers set up temporarily for the decennial censuses. The sole purpose of the censuses and surveys is to secure general statistical information. Replies are obtained from individuals and establishments only to enable the compilation of such general statistics.

The National Health Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) is the Federal Government's principal vital and health statistics agency. NCHS data systems include data on vital events as well as information on health status, lifestyle and exposure to unhealthy influences, the onset and diagnosis of illness and disability, and the use of health care.

Information on Education in the United States
National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data that are related to education in the United States and other nations. The NCES collects and reports "statistics and information showing the condition and progress of education in the United States and other nations in order to promote and accelerate the improvement of American education."–Section 402(b) of the National Education Statistics Act of 1994 (20 U.S.C. 9001). http://nces.ed.gov/
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as "the Nation's Report Card," is the only nationally representative and continuing assessment of what America's students know and can do in various subject areas. http://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/
The Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) is a national information system designed to provide ready access to an extensive body of education-related literature. EDWEEK web-site provides local, state, and national information from pre-school to 12th grade. Information on Special Education
Building the Legacy: IDEA 2004 was created by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Program (OSEP) to provide resources related to IDEA and its implementing regulations, released on August 3, 2006. It is a "living" website and will change and grow as resources and information become available. http://idea.ed.gov
OSEP’s Annual Report to Congress
The Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) within the US Department of Education, has oversight for the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). OSEP prepares an annual report to Congress that includes substantial statistical data (number of children identified, etc.) on special education.

The National Organization on Disability (NOD) promotes the full and equal participation of America's 54 million men, women and children with disabilities in all aspects of life. Funded entirely by private sector contributions, N.O.D. is the only national disability network organization concerned with all disabilities, all age groups and all disability issues.

National Center on Educational Outcomes (NCEO) provides national leadership in the participation of students with disabilities in national and state assessments, standards-setting efforts, and graduation requirements. NCEO recently added an online accommodation bibliography that allows you to search a compilation of empirical research studies on the effects of various testing accommodations for students with disabilities. NCEO offers information on assessments, accountability policy and practices, national and state data collection programs, and standards-setting for all students, including those with disabilities.

National Child Care Information Center (NCCIC) publishes the Child Care Bulletin and supports the Child Care Bureau in the collection and analysis of child care data. Publications available from the center include materials addressing the inclusion of children with disabilities in child care settings.

The National Perinatal Information Center, Inc. (NPIC) is a non-profit hospital membership organization and research center. The major missions of the organization are to further health services research in the field of perinatal care and to analyze data and disseminate information to member institutions, governments’ agencies, and other perinatal concerns. Their database contains financial and discharges information from major tertiary centers on millions of perinatal events. It includes patient-level diagnoses, procedures, infant birth-weights, outcomes and billed charges. Quarterly reports cover a full one-year period and are updated each quarter with the most recent quarter available.
